FAQS

Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Year-Round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

Are there bathrooms on the boat?

The boat we use for this tour is equipped with two airline-style washrooms.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Are there snacks or beverages on board?

Complementary tea, coffee & hot chocolate will be available on board. Light snacks (chips, cookies, chocolate bars) can be purchased with CAD cash. You can also bring your own snacks.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.

Thrilling ..... Wilma and crew, thank you for a most amazing experience! The weather was perfect and the water was calm. We saw quite a few humpback whales and everyone got amazing photographs. At one point, a couple of whales got quite close to the vessel but the captain had already turned off the engines. There are rules in place and they were followed with explanations. It almost felt like we were guests of the whales and they chose to perform for us.

Wilma, thank you for sharing your knowledge, general information, and encouraging questions.

Free hot beverages, and very clean bathrooms.

Thank you Prince of Whales - loved my day!

Awesome Great trip. Crew were friendly helpful and informative. We saw some humpback which was awesome and then they got a call that there was a chance of orcas so they said this will make us late back so do you still want to go see? Everyone on the boat said yes so we went and we saw orcas and it was amazing. Even the crew were excited. Great trip and worth every cent.

We saw humpback whales! Fabulous tour, we saw loads of whales within about an hour of starting, and then after we had watched them for an hour, we headed back towards the harbour and saw seals and even a bald Eagle! Be advised though this tour takes about 5 hours and can get pretty cool on the water so take layers and snacks! We were very relived that the seafood restaurant we wanted to try after the tour was still open and we got our platter. Perfect end to a wonderful afternoon, thanks guys!

Amazing experience whale watching with knowledgeable interesting experts We booked this hoping we would see whales but knowing it's not guaranteed. We were in luck, as we saw not only several humpback whales but also a pod of orca's. At no point did it feel like we were chasing the whales as the boat stays a good distance back (& we only saw 3 other boats out at the same time) near the orcas.

This company not only keeps an eye on where the whales are & talks to other boat companies, to help maximise your chances of seeing them, but also has some great experts (thanks Craig & the rest of the crew!) on board who talk to you all about the whales and other wildlife, but in a very relaxed friendly way so it's not a lecture in any way. This really made the trip even more interesting.

We also saw bald eagles, sealions, seals and turkey vultures, as well as some pretty shorelines of the islands in the Georgia Strait - an added bonus after seeing the whales.

On the way back the boat went very quickly through the waves - it was very exhilarating sitting on the top deck! We enjoyed the light spray & the wind as we were wearing windproof tops, but you can go to the lower deck or semi covered inside area if you don't.

The boat itself was great, with a toilet and light refreshments available.

Take sunglasses, suncream & a windproof/waterproof top with you. A tight fitting hat is also ideal.

Dream come true trip while also being so convenient! Amazing trip fro Vancouver to Victoria - super convenient being able to go from downtown Vancouver to downtown Victoria with the amazing plus of seeing whales (and other wildlife) along the way!
We saw humpback whales and got plenty of time to float alongside them and observe them in their natural habitat. We were also lucky enough to see a bald eagle, some deer and seals.
The staff were very friendly and informative, doing everything they could to make this trip even better!
Thanks so much - would definitely recommend!

Experience of a lifetime Me and my son went on the semi-covered boat for a whale watching experience. Valerie was helpful answering our questions. Nice they include hot drinks as it's quite cool and windy on the open water. Lots of great scenery and we did get the chance to spot some Transient Orcas T65a.

Incredible Experience! I took a friend visiting from Toronto out on a morning cruise to see the whales! We were lucky enough to be upstairs with Wilma who was fantastic. She was so knowledgeable and had a real passion for the whales. We saw 3 Humpbacks including a calf and 5 Orcas. It was incredible experience and I would definitely recommend using Prince of Whales! I hope to go again🐋
