Experience

Nestled on Vancouver Island’s northern bounds, Telegraph Cove is an intimate haven for whale watchers and conservationists. A former fishing village, today Telegraph Cove plays host to our quintessential whale watching adventure. Cut through Johnstone Strait’s currents and navigate the Broughton archipelago in search of orcas and humpback whales, and listen to our marine mammal experts bring the animals’ stories to life from the comfort of your cruiser.

Did you know? Telegraph Cove is one of the final boardwalk settlements left on Vancouver Island.

What To Bring

It gets cold out on the water (trust us!), so we recommend windbreaker jackets, sweaters, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. It’s also a good idea to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a tight-fitting hat, a camera to capture some memorable moments and, above all, your sense of adventure!

Onboard snacks are available for purchase with CAD cash only (no credit/debit cards accepted) but please feel free to bring your own snacks if you wish.

Great excursion Our family of four had a great time with Prince of Whales. All the staff on board the vessel were excellent, especially Sandy who took a lot of time to provide information and facts about whales and marine life in general. It is obvious all of the crew are passionate about whales, the sea, and the environment. The captain did everything he could to maximize our view of the group of whales we located. Everything was very organized. All in all, a memorable experience, highly recommended.

Wow During our short stay in Victoria, whale watching was high on the list of things to do. We had two or three boat companies to choose from but the Prince of Whales boat stood out as it was larger than the others we saw and looked the business.
We weren’t disappointed as the crew were, friendly, knowledgeable and placing our safety high on their agenda.

During our 3 and half hours on the boat we saw several Orcas and a Humpback Whale which we viewed from the advised distance to prevent stress to the whales. As a result the whales performed beautifully for us.

We also saw seals and birds of prey. Wrap up warm as it gets really cold, the boat has blankets for all that asked for them.

We highly recommend the Prince of Whales for Whale watching and thank all the crew for giving us an experience we shall never forget.

Orcas and Humpbacks Did the Ultimate Day Trip to Victoria, very well organised and the staff were professional, friendly and passionate about the wildlife. We saw humpbacks on the way to Vancouver Island and spent a lovely afternoon at Butchart Gardens. The bus stops right outside of the Fairmont Empress so we had lunch there, however there are plenty of lunch options in the area. The 2.00pm bus gave us sufficient time at the gardens before our 4.15pm pick up. On the way home, our crew was in contact with other boats - there had been no orcas spotted south, so our crew decided to take a different route home to try the northern waters. Sure enough, we spotted a small pod of orcas just before reaching Vancouver. Very impressed with the crew Anthony, Sandy, James and Amy, what a great day out!

So amazing! this trip was my absolute favorite, in fact I went twice. Both times I had the same captain, Chris Bann and the same naturalist, Lili. They were excellent and the second time around I also had Bill Moore as another captain and Valerie and Laura. Very well versed in their job. The first time out, we saw a pod of orca whales, some seals, a bald eagle and a humpback whale named Divit. The second time I saw the same humpback whale. The trip itself was so amazing, I loved the speed of the boat and the waves and all of it. On my second trip I was allowed to see the captain's cabin after they docked and Mr. Bill Moore showed me how they steered the boat into the dock. Thank you all guys. And because I so wanted a souvenir to take home with me, a Prince of Whales hat, the office ordered one for me from the Vancouver office and it was brought over in a boat! How amazing is that!

Knowledgeable Naturalist We went out of Vancouver on a half day trip, poking into Howe Sound, the Strait of Georgia and the North Arm of the Fraser River. We tracked two orcas for a while, saw a breaching humpback whale mother and her calf, and some resting harbor seals. I wasn’t expecting to see much given how close we had to remain to the city on only a 3-5 hour trip, so was happy with what we did encounter. Plus being out on the water is a great way to experience another side of a new place. Our onboard naturalist Wilma was very knowledgeable and eager to share everything she knows with us. The captain Aaron was fully engaged with us as well, keeping us updated on our course, which he adjusted quickly with changing information coming in over his radio from other boats.
