FAQS

Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Year-Round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

Are there bathrooms on the boat?

The boat we use for this tour is equipped with two airline-style washrooms.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Are there snacks or beverages on board?

Complementary tea, coffee & hot chocolate will be available on board. Light snacks (chips, cookies, chocolate bars) can be purchased with CAD cash. You can also bring your own snacks.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.

AWESOME!!! Jasper was simply an AMAZING tour guide and we were fortunate enough to see at least 9 whales on our trip (7 Orcas and 2 Humpbacks)! Very smooth ride and Jasper was very knowledgeable and informative throughout the trip. I would HIGHLY recommend this tour to anyone traveling to Victoria BC even if for only a day trip. Thanks again!!!

Great Time! We went on the early morning trip on Saturday July 27 and were totally impressed by the whole crew. We took the catamaran because we're not spring chickens anymore! It was very comfortable even in the choppy waters that day. The captain Chris seemed to know where to go and sure enough he got us to the whales right away. They were humpback and at one point they came to us about 20' from the boat. At no time did the captain take us too close to them, he really obeyed the rules and showed the whales great respect, which I really appreciated. I know some outfits will try and get too close just to impress their guests, and I have no respect for that at all. The first mate Joe was very friendly and handled the boat very well. The company hires extra staff for interpreting and informing us about the ocean and the whales. Ours was Rory, a biology major from UVic. What an informed and helpful young man. He really knew his whales, could identify them individually, and answered any and all questions. We were very lucky to see a humpback breach 5 times, which is quite rare I believe, and he was as excited as we were. His enthusiasm was infectious and he couldn't have been more helpful. This is one aspect of their tour that I really like. Having an expert on board enhances the experience tremendously. Would highly recommend this company.

Sunset whale Watching Tour by Zodiac Fantastic experience. The ride on the zodiac was so much fun and as a bonus we were so lucky to see Orcas which was the highlight. Rush who was our guide was so knowledgeable, friendly and professional and also took us to see the sea lions, who were making such a ruckus in the sunset rays. Also Nicole who was their onshore assistant was lovely and altogether it was a great experience that I very highly recommend

Absolutely Fantastic We went on the afternoon trip aboard the catamaran.

We saw a humpback whale then 300m away were a pod of 8 killer whales! They came within 10m or so of the boat. It was incredible to watch. Then we sailed to another part of the sea and found another pod!

The staff were just as excited about it as us. They were all very knowledgeable and a particular shout out to Seanie who answered all our questions!

If you like whales then go with this company.

AMAZING Took this tour today and it was awesome. Our guide Austin found at least 10 humpback whales. They came so close to the boat and one swam right underneath us giving us a chance to see them up close. I would definitely recommend this tour if you’re visiting Victoria. Thanks Austin for a great day.

Whale watching ultimate day tour An absolutely amazing experience. The crew were very knowledgeable and helpful and made every effort to ensure we enjoyed our day. We saw several humpback whales, orcas and seals as well as some breathtaking scenery. The day includes some time in Victoria and Butchart Gardens. Butchart gardens were very impressive but a little spoiled by the selfie stick carrying brigade. Overall I recommend Prince of Whales without reservation and would definitely whale watch with them again.
