Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Year-Round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

When is the best time of day for watching whales?

There really is no better time of day for whale sightings, as the whales do not run on a schedule as we do! The whales are active throughout the day and their behaviour changes as groups encounter each other. If you are looking for the best scenic light for photography choose morning departure.

Are there bathrooms on the Zodiacs?

No, the RHIBs are open-air boats, and therefore do not have washrooms on board. We recommend that you use the public washrooms (located next to our office) before your departure.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Are there snacks or beverages available on board the Catamarans?

Yes! Complimentary tea, coffee & hot chocolate will be available on board. Light snacks (chips, cookies and chocolate bars) can be purchased with CAD cash. You can also bring your own snacks.

Can I bring a camera on a Zodiac?

Yes! Bring your camera and/or video camera to capture the experience. We also recommend that you bring a plastic bag or other waterproof case to keep your camera safe and dry during transit. The boat will come to a complete stop for photo opportunities.

Are Zodiac adventures safe?

Yes, all of our captains and boats are certified by Transport Canada. Zodiacs move fast but are very stable. There will be no 360-degree turns on this tour. These adventures are designed for fast sightseeing and not a thrill park ride.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.

Great Tour-A must do! The tour was a blast. We ended up seeing two humpback whales and 5 orcas. They do a great job of entertaining you with information when we were on the boat both around the animals and when we were out looking for more. Our crew consisted of Lili, Rory, Bill, Chris and Laura who were all excellent, very knowledgable and great at conveying information in a way that was accessible and exciting. Rory even offered to send his own personal pictures which was a great touch. Definitely recommend this company for whale watching!

A childhood dream came true We decided to go on a whale watching tour twice and both times were so amazing. Best 140 dollars we spent so far on our canada trip! Both times we saw orcas and humpback whales, sea lions and other marine life. The crew scotty and alan knew very much about the different whales and shared their knowledge with us. Scotty also put a hydrophone in the water so we heard the orcas communicating with each other, which was amazing. He was respectful and always kept a good distance with the boat so that the whales didn‘t get stressed out. Thanks a lot we definitely would come back :)

Absolutely worth it. I dont think this tour could've gone any better. The naturalists on board said there were 10 humpback whales, a pod of critically endangered orcas, a pile of sea lions, a pile of harbor seals, 2 bald eagles, and 2 pods of dolphins. Be prepared for frigid cold, though!

Danielle I flew from Australia to Victoria to see killer whales in the wild and my trip with prince of whales yesterday didn’t disappoint. We saw both transient and southern residents (plus about 15 humpbacks). It was amazing! Our guide, Jasper, was fantastic. Enthusiastic, informative and lovely. We had the time of our lives and I couldn’t recommend the trip more. Thanks so much to the team at Prince of Whales!!!

We sited a mother humpback whale with her calf & another whale tagging along. seals & sea lions (plus learnt the difference) & an immature bald headed eagle.
Would definitely go again, as want to see the orcas.

Half day whale watching from Granville Island - couldn’t have been a better experience!!! 20 minutes out of Port, we came upon 3 humpbacks. They proceeded to entertain, entrance and educate us for over 1/2 hour. Their antics included brilliant display of pectoral fins, tail flukes, even a few spyhops and full on display of baleen. Absolutely amazing - even allowed amateur photographers to take great pics.
If this wasn’t enough, within about 15 minutes, we came upon a group of 5 transient killer whales - T35 was one I think, including a calf. Unfortunately no spyhops this time. But otherwise excellent viewing and more amazing photo ops.
To top it all off, the weather was perfect (flat water and crystal blue skies) and the staff were fantastic. Kudos to Captain Aaron for finding both groups of whales and our naturalist, Wilma for her very in-depth knowledge about these whales and the environment they live in. She shared tons of info in engaging, entertaining way. A+ to both of them. I couldn’t have asked for a better day. Thanks very much.

BEST DAY OF THE SEASON! We saw so much wild life that day... massive sea lions languishing and squabbling on a favorite ocean rock, eagles feeding, seals, countless orcas and humpback whales, school of dolphins. It was a gorgeous, sunny and crisp day in Vancouver--even snow capped Mt Baker was visible in the distance. We were told by the crew that it was the best day of the season for sea life. I'm not out there every day so I will take their word for it. Personally it was a highlight of a lifetime. The captain and crew were fantastic! And a special shout out to naturalist and crew member Wilma Fuchs, whose knowledge and enthusiasm made the day over the top EXTRA special! I highly recommend this adventure to everyone, locals and travellers!
